Sacred Defence is a debut monographic book with photographs of Wawrzyniec Kolbusz, who created a multi-layered visual essay on Iran through the prism of selected aspects of its iconography. The photographs at first glance resemble a classic documentary project, but whole book in fact deals with illusion, simulation and simulacras, and is firmly based on the ideas of Jean Baudrillard and other social philosophers. I decided to design the front and back cover in cursive mirror typography to underline those aspects of Kolbusz’s work.
